Voice ordering
Your customer just says it.
In ಕನ್ನಡ.
On a Fooduru menu, a customer can tap the microphone and order out loud in ಕನ್ನಡ, English or हिंदी — no scrolling, no typing, no app. The dishes land in the cart with the right quantities, ready to check and pay by UPI.
It is built for the customer who can speak your menu but would rather not read it — an older regular, someone whose reading language is not English, or anyone with both hands full and a queue behind them.

Three seconds, start to cart
01
Tap the mic
The microphone sits on the menu itself, once the restaurant switches voice ordering on. Nothing to install, nothing to sign into.
02
Say the order
“ಎರಡು ಮಸಾಲ ದೋಸೆ, ಒಂದು ಕಾಫಿ.” Kannada, English or Hindi — the recogniser works out which, so the customer never picks a language first.
03
Check and pay
Dishes and quantities land in the cart to review. Half or Full is asked where it matters. Then UPI, straight into the restaurant's own account.
Why it can't go wrong
It can only order things you actually sell.
Most “AI ordering” runs the customer's words through a language model, which can confidently produce a dish that isn't on your menu. Fooduru doesn't work that way. The transcript is matched against your menu and nothing else, by a deterministic matcher with no language model in the path. Words that aren't one of your dishes match nothing at all.
Menu-strict by construction
The matcher's only vocabulary is your item list, in English and Kannada. A dish you don't sell has no path into the cart.
Quantities in three languages
Spoken number words in English, Kannada and Hindi — and digits — are all read as quantities, so “ಎರಡು” and “two” both mean 2.
The customer confirms
Nothing is ordered from speech alone. The cart is reviewed and paid for by the customer, so a misheard word costs a tap.
Speech recognition is powered by Sarvam AI, an Indian speech-AI provider whose models are trained on Indian languages and accents. Audio that is silent or too short is discarded on the phone and never uploaded.
Why this matters in Bengaluru
A menu your customer can read is not the same as a menu they can use.
Plenty of restaurant software is available in Kannada — but the Kannada is for the staff, in the billing screen behind the counter. The customer-facing menu stays in English.
Fooduru puts Kannada where the customer is. Every dish name carries its own Kannada text, the whole menu switches with one tap, and voice ordering means a customer who would rather speak than read never has to scroll a list at all.

Quoted on what you actually use
Voice ordering is an add-on to the ₹599/month Fooduru plan. Because it is billed on usage rather than a flat rate, we quote it against your order volume instead of printing a number you might not recognise on your bill. Switch it on and off yourself from the dashboard — it is your menu, your call.
FAQ
Questions about voice ordering
- Can customers order food by speaking in Kannada?
- Yes. On a Fooduru menu, a customer taps the microphone and says their order out loud in ಕನ್ನಡ — for example “ಎರಡು ಮಸಾಲ ದೋಸೆ, ಒಂದು ಕಾಫಿ” — and the items appear in the cart with the right quantities. English and हिंदी work the same way, and the customer does not have to pick a language first: the speech recogniser detects it.
- Can voice ordering add a dish the restaurant does not sell?
- No. Fooduru does not use a large language model to interpret the order. The transcript is matched against that restaurant's actual menu by a deterministic matcher, so anything that is not a real item on the menu simply matches nothing. There is no mechanism by which an invented or hallucinated dish can reach the cart.
- Does the customer need to install an app to order by voice?
- No. Voice ordering runs in the phone's browser after scanning the restaurant's QR code. There is nothing to download for the customer and nothing to install for the restaurant.
- How much does voice ordering cost?
- Voice ordering is an optional add-on on top of the ₹599 per month Fooduru plan. It is priced on how much it is actually used rather than sold at a flat list rate, so it is quoted for your restaurant's order volume — ask us and we will send a figure the same day. The owner switches it on and off from the admin dashboard.
- What if the restaurant is noisy?
- The customer sees exactly what was understood before anything is charged — matched dishes and quantities land in the cart for review, and dishes sold in more than one portion size pause for a Half or Full choice. Nothing is ordered until the customer reviews the cart and pays, so a misheard word costs a tap, not a wrong order.
- Which languages does Fooduru voice ordering support?
- English, ಕನ್ನಡ (Kannada) and हिंदी (Hindi). Quantities are understood as spoken number words in all three, as well as digits. Speech recognition is powered by Sarvam AI, an Indian speech-AI provider whose models are trained on Indian languages and accents.
